Shaun Grech: Art From The Outside

Eight new works by self-taught/outsider artist Shaun Grech are currently on display at a collective exhibition entitled "Deviations" at Gallery Last Touch, Mosta.

Grech has been painting obsessively what he calls 'defenseless snapshots of people'. Although his work has often been referred to as 'art brut' and sometimes 'raw art', Grech prefers to steer away from disabling titles and sit on the fence of the 'Outsider' space, being completely self-taught and producing art out of necessity and unconstrained by the inflexible structures of the usual art circles.

Grech's art blends the funny, chaotic, political, sexual and painful, inspired by his quasi-obsessive penchant for observing and depicting people in their most fragile states. The final product is what he calls: "humble chronicles of real life, stripped of unnecessary beauty and gloss, with real raw meat hanging off them".

Grech's work is on display from the 9th till the 22nd of December. An exhibition not to be missed! More information is available on Grech's online gallery updated regularly with new works: www.shaungrech.com.
